140 Years and Still in Love with NOAA

One hundred and forty years ago, an idea was brought to life that literally changed the world. It made life better for so many people. The National Weather Service from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or NOAA, revolutionized the way we see the world.
Suddenly, farmers knew the likelihood of rain, snow, sleet, and sunshine. They knew the crops that would grow the best. They knew when frost was likely and when droughts were expected. The information became public, easily accessible, and reliable.
Today, weather prediction still plays a huge role in our lives. It changes the way we dress in the mornings, how we plan our days, what to pack on trips, and even our moods. When in doubt, talk about the weather.
NOAA has recently announced something else quite extraordinary, an office dedicated to reporting on climate change. Believe it or not, the climate is definitely changing. What isn’t changing is digestible, easily accessible, undeniable information about what is happening now and why. NOAA wants to change that and once again bring the elementary service of knowledge and predictions to the masses. It’s just one of the many reasons NOAA still rocks.
