NetGreen News caught up with the Chief Operating Officer of the U.S. Green Building Council, Chris Smith, in Shanghai, China. USGBC is working to implement their educational programs on green building in China. China is undergoing a massive low-carbon development strategy with green building at its heart. Currently, China is bringing in experts in every field to help educate the people about different technologies and building practices. USGBC is a prime example of this strategy as it is the organization that certifies buildings using the Leadership in Environmental Energy and Design (LEED) program.

Dr. Sheri Speede talks to Net Green News about how she rescued Dorothy the chimpanzee in a historic seizure at an amusement park in Cameroon. Dorothy passed away at the Sanaga-Yong Chimpanzee Rescue Center in Cameroon in September 2008. Through a now famous photograph of chimpanzees morning her death her legacy continues to live on. Dorothy spent 25 years of her life chained to the base of a tree. Despite years of abuse, Speede says Dorothy was the kindest chimpanzee she’s ever known.

Mr. Nitze talks to NetGreen about a form of geoengineering that could mitigate climate change. Geoengineering is also called climate engineering. It is the concept of manipulating the Earth in order to lessen the effects that greenhouse gases have on the climate. In this episode, Mr. Nitze describes a form of oceanic geoengineering that would reflect heat back into the atmosphere rather than being absorbed by the ocean.

William A. Nitze: The Science of Global Warming

William A. Nitze has been working on energy and environmental issues for most of his career. Mr. Nitze is the co-founder of Climate Clean Inc., a company that exists to generate reductions in greenhouse gases and particles by offering customers an easy, affordable way to address climate change. He currently serves as Chairman of Oceana Energy Company, a company that is developing a new technology for converting tidal energy into electricity and is co-founder of GridPoint, Inc., a company that designs and manufactures intelligent energy management systems for the home and small business. â€œHe also chairs a small non-profit, the Galapagos Conservancy, and serves on the Board of the Alliance to Save Energy.â€ Mr. Nitze served as Assistant Administrator for International Activities at the Environmental Protection Agency (1994-2001), where he made environmental security a focus of the agencyâ€™s international work, establishing a formal working relationship among the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy and EPA on environmental security issues.
