NGN Daily: Oregon’s BETC Program

Future Uncertain for Oregon’s BETC Program

Renewable energy advocates are worried a slew of negative press could erode support for Oregon’s Business Energy Tax Credit Program. Criticism of the program, which supports private clean energy projects, has centered on several large projects that received multiple tax credits and increased costs of the program.

Oregon Director of Climate Solutions, Lisa Adatto, is urging continued support for the BETC program. She says it is responsible for a great deal of economic development in the state. It has also created green jobs and made Oregon the leader in developing a clean energy economy.

Adatto says that the BETC saves businesses money by helping them invest in energy efficiency programs.
Governor Kulongoski’s Energy Department recently released new regulation’s that put some limitations on the tax subsidies. Legislators may make more modifications in the February session.
