Solar Powered Water Purification Technology Released

SwissInso Holding has launched a new water purification system that runs on solar power. The product could be very useful to victims of natural disasters.

The units are completely self-sufficient and can provide clean water without pulling any power from local grids.

The technology uses reverse osmosis to filter water and are capable of purifying 200,000 liters of brackish water a day.

The units are self contained in two 40-foot containers and can be fitted with an optional bottling line.

Government Funding Energy Efficiency Lighting Projects

The US government has awarded 37 million in funding to next generation lighting projects. Solid-state lighting uses LED’s instead of incandescent bulbs and has the potential to be ten times more energy efficient.

17 projects were selected to receive funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Government officials say the projects will help cut energy use and save money.

Lighting accounts for about 24% of the total electricity generated in the United States today.
