NOAA Disaster Response Center in Alabama Coming Soon
NOAA has begun construction on its disaster response center in Mobile, Alabama. The office will protect the 20 million people living on Gulf of Mexico coast from the aftereffects of hurricanes. They will also respond to oil spills and deal with habitat loss attributed to climate change. The 15,000 square foot facility will be able to withstand the harsher hurricanes that are forecasted. It will also be energy efficient and operating by 2011.

Natural Gas Solution for Water Contamination
Hydraulic fracturing, a process to extract natural gas, has recently been linked to water contamination.
According to HBC systems, about 4 billion gallons of water are contaminated a day from drilling. The company has developed a technology to clean up the wastewater using reverse osmosis. The Bear Creek Green Machine is portable and able to handle both large and small loads of wastewater. What it does is eliminate the need to constantly transport fresh water to the drilling site. According to HBC, it will save about 1 million gallons of water per well.
