Oregon’s Green Jobs
Oregon has received a green jobs grant from the U.S. department of Labor. The $1.25 million grant will strengthen the state’s ability to collect market information about green jobs.
The governor says having more data will allow Oregon to continue to attract eco-conscious companies. There are currently about 50,000 green jobs in Oregon.
According to a study released earlier this year, businesses in Oregon expect the number of green jobs to grow faster than the overall economy between 2008 and 2010.
The grant was offered through the $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment act.
Walmart Recycles Cardboard for Pizza Boxes
Retail giant, Walmart, is turning cardboard waste into pizza boxes. The boxes will be used for its private label take and bake pizzas.
The effort should keep 8,600 tons of cardboard waste from landfills and save 125,000 trees.
The cardboard waste is assembled into bales and sent to a company called Pratt Industries. They turn the cardboard into pulp, test it for contaminants, and then turn it back into cardboard.
Walmart has 4,100 stores in America. It wants to eliminate all its packaging waste by reducing, reusing and recycling by 2025.
