Oregon Sustainability Center

Planning and fundraising are underway for the Oregon Sustainability Center. The twelve-story building will be built at Southwest 5th Avenue and Montgomery Street in Portland.

Those involved say the building, which will leave no carbon footprint, is an engineering marvel that will spark environmental, economic, and social change.

The building is fully occupied. It will include a classroom, conference room, research center and exhibit space as well as offices for environmental nonprofits and the city of Portland.

Once the Sustainability Center is built it will have twenty-four hour monitoring of energy consumption, stormwater management and tenant comfort and productivity.

The Portland Sustainability Institute says construction on the center could start as early as next year. The building is estimated to cost between $100 and $120 million. Around twenty to thirty million dollars still need to be raised. About eighty-five million dollars has already been secured through state bonds and tax increment financing.
