Rules to Protect Polar Bears
A proposed rule was made by the Interior Department to the White House. The rule entitled, “Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants; Critical Habitat Designation for the Polar Bear,” aims at protecting the habitat of polar bears. Polar bears live in icy regions of the earth. As we all know, the Arctic ice sheets are melting away and shrinking their habitat. The Interior Department is stepping up efforts to save the largest bears on the planet. Sobering reports made by the U.S. Geological Society state that two-thirds of the polar bear population could be wiped out as early as 2050.
Recent polls also suggest that people are tired of hearing about polar bear extinction from climate change. In my humble opinion, polar bears are the most fascinating creatures on the planet. They have evolved to live in an inhospitable environment. Their paws are webbed for fluid swimming. Polar bears have insulated fur that grows on their paws to provide a buffer to cold surfaces and grip the ice. They are seriously cool.
Climate Change Is Bad News for Farmers
An environmental group has stated that global warming will hurt farmers more than climate legislation in the United States. The Environmental Working Group has released their report to counter claims made by the American Farm Bureau that a climate bill will increase farming costs. The EWG said that the meager fees on fuel, fertilizer, and pesticides that may be caused by the bill would pale in comparison to crop losses from climate change.
