The Green Demand for Federal Agencies by Nobel Winner Obama

President Obama, that won the Nobel Peace Prize today, called for federal agencies to set goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2020. They have 90 days to produce a reduction plan. He also wants to cut transportation by 30 percent, improve water efficiency and increase recycling. He hopes to lead by example and quash fears that he isn’t doing enough about climate change. President Obama has been criticized lately for his inability to produce climate legislation. The bill is currently stuck in the Senate and not likely to pass.

EU To Sue Britain for Sewer Spills in Thames

The European Union is considering taking Britain to court over sewage spills. Flooded sewers from heavy rains have spilled out into the River Thames. The EU says that Britain has surpassed the acceptable number of overflows. The UK, along with France, Belgium, Ireland, and Spain, has combined sewer systems, which carry both human waste and rainwater.

EPA Applies Water Standards to Aircrafts

All U.S. airlines have been ordered to purify on-board water and adhere to the standards of the Environmental Protection Agency. This is the first time the EPA has applied its standards to aircrafts. It argues that the contaminated water could sicken passengers. The change affects 63 airlines.
